Copywriter / Media Consultant

RYAN MAY is the founder of Forged Ink Communications and a freelance copywriter whose work has appeared in print and online for clients operating in 17 countries. He has written a wide assortment of marketing collateral, supporting campaigns in nearly three dozen industries, ranging from apparel, beauty products, and event rentals to personal insurance, sustainable investments, software, and mobile technology.

Ryan began his career with 20th Century Fox Film Corporation, the global producer of films, television and related forms of broadcast media. For nearly 10 years, he worked within a variety of departments on the studio lot in Los Angeles, contributing to the production, marketing and publicity of world-renowned TV series that include 24, How I Met Your Mother, Prison Break, The Simpsons, Family Guy, The X-Files and American Idol, as well as the feature films X2 and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Leaving Fox and moving to Seattle, Wash., Ryan used his corporate experience to start Forged Ink Communications, LLC in 2008. Since then, he has steadily built relationships with a roster of long-time clients, proudly and gratefully continuing to support them through content marketing, consultation and collaboration.

At the same time, he is focused on building his business and depth of experience by providing comprehensive brand analysis, competitive positioning, and creative, engaging content for a continuous stream of new local, national, and international clients. Using social media and other cost-effective forms of targeted promotion, Ryan’s efforts have resulted in brand awareness and participation increases of nearly 320 percent in recent campaigns.

Ryan also specializes in research, with advanced training in investigative journalism. As a result, he is able to work side-by-side with business owners and marketing professionals to supplement in-house research and marketing staff, often serving as an adviser and brand manager to small businesses. In this capacity, he has provided competitive assessments as well as an in-depth evaluation of trends, demographic preferences and other contributing factors commonly used to craft the most effective voice and message.

While he is happy to work within the definitions of your in-house style, Ryan adheres to guidelines established by the Associated Press and The Chicago Manual of Style. In doing so, he is able to consistently and reliably create strong, persuasive copy for: brochures, web content, printed advertising, press releases, e-mail campaigns, annual reports, newsletters, and a variety of other marketing materials his clients use to sell to and communicate with business customers or direct to consumer.

A double major, Ryan holds a B.A. in Print Journalism and Film & Electronic Arts from California State University in Long Beach, Calif., [Go Beach!].

In his free time, he enjoys hiking through the moss-covered woodland of the Olympic National Forest, road trips and traveling, fly fishing, homebrewing, nutrition, weight lifting, museums, music, languages, cultural events, and a wealth of other pursuits aimed at physical fitness and personal development. From the comforts of his couch, he routinely participates in soccer, rugby, baseball, basketball, and hockey, enjoying the competitiveness and triumphs achieved through teamwork and individual determination.
